Has Trevor Bayne’s NASCAR career taken the backseat? In a recent interview with the 20-year old Baptist driver, Bayne stated that he admires Tim Tebow and wants to be more like him, wearing his religion on his sleeve. Ugh… the thought of another Tebow makes me sick. I am all for believing in whatever you wish, but I am also all for keeping it to yourself and not using your fame as a platform to preach it. But I digress, and I could have gotten on with my day just fine had he just stopped there, but he continued and went on to state:
“I wanted to win races and I wanted to have the most followers on Twitter or the most fans, but I think that’s changed over the last few years, it’s not about me, it never has been, it’s not about what I do here. But it’s about what happens for the Kingdom and I think this year I am a lot more fired up about storing my treasures in heaven instead of here.”
Sooo wait? That was kind of a drastic jump from “wearing it on your sleeve…” What does that even mean? Did Trevor Bayne just say that he doesn’t care about his fans or winning races? He is starting to sound like he is preparing for another rapture…
Admiring Tebow is one thing, but Bayne just took it to a whole new level. I guarantee you that if you ask Tebow, he would tell you that winning games is very important to him and that he cares about his fans and what he “does here”.
People have been raising the question “Is Trevor Bayne NASCAR’s Tim Tebow?’ The answer is NO, because Tim Tebow is GOOD. His being the number one selling jersey is not entirely due to his faith, it is because he is a skilled player. Bayne has won one race and Daytona’s been known to be a crapshoot.
My words of advice to Bayne: You were given an opportunity that millions of people can only dream of, get your act together, Trevor.
